Time Line of Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR)
Join me in a journey to the past when the
Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was under construction.
In 1857 John Palliser was sent to view the prairie.
He was looking if it was a good place to build a railway and to find out
the route that the railway was going to go through.
They then started the construction. Then in 1890 the railway was
completed. I think it was a very
dangerous job because some workers had to use dynamite. The Canadian Pacific
Railway (CPR) begins in British Columbia.
In 1883 Father Albert Lacombe persuaded Issapoomahksika
(Iss-a-poom-ahk-si-ka) (Chief Crowfoot) and Three Bulls (Chief Crowfoot’s
brother) to let them build the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) through their
land.
Facts about William Cornelius Van Horne
Come on and let’s learn a little bit about William Cornelius Van
Horne. William Cornelius Van Horne
was hired to get the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) moving
faster also he was a little bit like a boss. Van Horne was surprisingly born an
artist but still he had the courage learning a new skill.
He believed in his self very strongly and always thought “I can do
it.” Van Horne was close friends
with Father Albert Lacombe. Van
Horne was born in February 3, 1843 near Frankfort, Illinois, U.S.
And he died in September 11, 1915 (aged 72) Montreal, Quebec, Canada
da. Van Horne’s dad died in 1854and
he did odd jobs. Van Horne was
also veryresponsible. Van
Horne worked at odd jobs. In 1882
Van Horne was hired to be the general manager for the Canadian Pacific Railway
(CPR). Van Horne’s biggest
achievement was completing the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR).
Van Horne was hired by a telegraph office when he was only 14 years old.
Why William Cornelius Van Horne a Change Maker? What Change Did William Cornelius Van Horne Make?
Do you want to know what change he made?
If it wasn’t for Van Horne the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) would have
finished closer to 1920 instead of it finishing in 1890.
This would have got Chief Crowfoot mad and not let them build the
Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) through the First Nations land.
Van Horne also helped the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) get built
faster. If it wasn’t finished in
1890 there would be another problem and that would be that if it was prevented
from being built Canada wouldn’t become bigger. We would probably end up in the United
States of America because they would have had a war for our land and most likely
Canada would lose because they have less land and that means less
people.
William Cornelius Van Horne’s Values (PROOF)
Do you want to know what I think some of William Cornelius Van
Horne’s values are? I think Van Horne’s number one value was Hard Work while he
worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) because he worked hard for the
Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). I
think his second value is Commitment because he was committed to finish the
Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) before the 1900’s.
I think his third value is courage because he had the courage learning a
new skill.
