Guy Weadick lived in Rochester New York. His mother died when he was very young. So he moved to Ontario Canada. That’s where his moms sister lived in. His aunts husband was Mr. Calder they moved around a lot he went to Winnipeg and Manitoba. He had 3 girl cousins. They Guy Weadick was born in Rochester in 1885. His mother died sometimes went to rodeo when he was there so he decided that he wanted to be a cowboy.
Western Canada
Imagine having to walk to work and to walk to the shops and having to take the train if you wanted to go someplace far. Why didn’t you just take a plane or a car? Well there were not any cars or planes back then. Prices on land were very small back then the highest was probably $20. The government advertised land in different countries. Some reasons why they came because they did not own their own land. The way that they came here was they walked to Edmonton port city then they took a boat to Quebec. Then you would take the CPR to western Canada. The world war was going on at that time so lots of people went off to war. It ended in 1918
Timeline
(1885-1953)Guy Weadick was a rope trick cowboy. Somewhere around 1912 he met Grace Bensell she did rope tricks as well and they got married. In 1912 he travelled to Alberta and met a guy named H.C McMullen he was an agent for the CPR. Together they made the Calgary stampede. The first Calgary Stampede was in 1912 it had people from all across Canada and America. One of the people was Tom Three Person. It cost them a lot of money to get all of the bulls and horses but they managed. He died in 1953 from old age.
Values
Guy Weadick loved to perform in front of people especially in the stampede. One of his favourites acts were rope riding because he did it when he was in America. I think Guy Weadick valued entertainment because he brought a lot of entertainment to Alberta. I think that he valued hardwork and commitment because never gave up trying to make the Stampede. I think he valued tolerance because with 3 girl older girl cousins that would be kind of hard to put up with them.
Change
Guy Weadick Brought a lot of excitement to Alberta. The Stampede got a lot people to Alberta which was good because nothing really exciting was going on and the government would get more money because how are they going to get Western Canada without using the CPR. At that time war was going on so they did not have a lot excitement going. So Guy Weadick sorted that problem.
